Revitalizing Atlantic City Will Take Aggressive, Out-Of-The Box Plan
TRENTON – Senator Jeff Van Drew (D-Cape May/Atlantic/Cumberland), who will take part in next month’s gaming summit called by legislative leaders, issued the following statement on the New Jersey Gaming, Sports and Entertainment Advisory Commission report released today:
“The commission’s vision for revitalizing Atlantic City is encouraging. One thing we know is we can no longer use Band-Aid approaches in an attempt to heal a city suffering with a gaping wound.
“We will need bold incentives to bring more activity to our casinos, shops and entertainment venues, and to accomplish this, we must also make Atlantic City cleaner and safer.
“The commission’s report is a great starting point for our gaming summit next month. We will dissect it, look at what is good and what we can do to make it better. We will use it as a basis to develop an aggressive, out-of-the-box plan that will finally put Atlantic City on track to become a world-wide resort destination.
“We cannot delay on the deliberative work ahead. Imagine if within just a year, we could see an Atlantic City where the streets are cleaner, where police presence is more visible, and where we actually see construction crews at work?
“Right now, we have an opportunity to make real progress, to benefit not only the region, but the entire state of New Jersey. We must seize this moment.”
