23 Oct: Madden: Drivers Who Leave Licenses, Registration Or Insurance Cards At Home Aren’t Criminals

TRENTON – A measure sponsored by Senator Fred H. Madden designed to amend current law to reduce fines for driving without proof of a license, registration or an insurance card was approved today by the Senate Transportation Committee.

“This legislation is designed to ease the penalties for drivers who simply leave home and forget to grab their license, registration or insurance card on the way out the door – these people aren’t hardened criminals, they’ve just made a mistake,” said Senator Madden. D-Camden and Gloucester, who also sits on the Senate Transportation panel. “As a former State Trooper, I have to say that we should not be in the business of imposing unnecessary penalties on good citizens. Instead, we must focus our energies on keeping the streets safe from criminals, and this legislation would allow officers to do just that.”

19 Oct: Madden/Vitale Measure To Protect Patients’ Rights Clears Assembly Health & Senior Services Committee

TRENTON – A measure sponsored by Senators Fred H. Madden and Joseph F. Vitale that would ban pharmacists from refusing to dispense medication solely on the basis of philosophical, moral or religious reasons was approved today by the Assembly Health and Senior Services Committee.

“The purpose of this legislation is to help ensure that patients have access to quality healthcare and receive the medicine they need,” said Senator Madden, D-Camden and Gloucester, who sits on the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee. “People need affordability and access to the medicine that has been legally prescribed to them by their physicians.”

GLASSBORO- Senator Fred H. Madden announced today that the Senate Committee on Community and Urban Affairs will hold a public meeting at Rowan University this Thursday to hear testimony on a package of bills aimed at curbing the frequency of defects occurring in newly built homes.

TRENTON – A measure sponsored by Senators Fred H. Madden and Joseph F. Vitale that would prohibit pharmacists from refusing to dispense medication solely on the basis of philosophical, moral or religious reasons was approved today in the Senate by a vote of 31-6.

“The sole purpose of this legislation is to ensure quality access to health care,” said Senator Madden, D-Camden and Gloucester, who sits on the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee. “A patient seeking a prescription that has been legally prescribed by a licensed medical professional should be provided their medication without undue delay or compromise. It is my hope that with this bill’s passage, the citizens of New Jersey will be able to go into their local pharmacy and have their prescriptions filled with no problems. Pharmacies should also recognize the importance of this legislation and its positive effect on our health care network.”

TRENTON – A measure sponsored by Senator Fred H. Madden that would rename New Jersey Route 55 as “Veterans Memorial Highway” was approved today by the Senate Transportation Committee.

“This measure would provide a way for South Jerseyans to honor the soldiers who serve our State and country so well,” saidSenator Madden, D-Camden and Gloucester. “By renaming this highway to honor our troops, we would be establishing the first highway in the State to honor veterans of the Armed Forces. 04 May: Madden Joins With March Of Dimes And Thomas Jefferson Hospital To Stress Need For Proper Prenatal Care

TRENTON – Senator Fred H. Madden today joined with Tracey A. Reed of the NJ chapter of March of Dimes and Dr. Jay Greenspan of the Virtua Medical Center in Voorhees and the Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia to discuss the month of May 2006 being designated as “Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Month,” and the importance of prenatal care for the health of expectant mothers and their babies.

TRENTON – A measure to sponsored by Senator Fred H. Madden that would ban the sale of yo-yo waterballs, which have been blamed for the strangulation deaths of hundreds of children in the United States was unanimously approved today by the full Senate.

“Taking care of our children and making sure that they grow up to be healthy and productive adults should be our number one priority,” said Senator Madden, D-Camden and Gloucester. “New Jersey ranks fourth in the entire nation for deaths caused by these dangerous toys. We, as parents and concerned legislators, must make sure that these toys are banned, so they don’t claim the lives of any more of our children.”
