16 Jun: Beach Bill Would Require State College And University Websites To Provide Information On Educational Benefits For Vets

TRENTON – A measure sponsored by Senator Jim Beach, which would require public colleges and universities in New Jersey to provide a link on their website to access information on educational benefits available to veterans has been introduced in the Senate.

“This bill would benefit our hard-working men and women in uniform, who return home or are discharged from the military and decide to pursue other educational opportunities,” said Senator Beach, D-Camden. “It can be hard to secure educational scholarship and benefit information when you’ve been out of school for a while, and this bill would keep these veterans aware of available opportunities.”

16 Jun: Beach Bills To Help Combat Child Pornography Clear Senate Judiciary Committee

TRENTON – A group of measures sponsored by Senator Jim Beach which would upgrade the penalties associated with child pornography were unanimously approved today by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“As a parent and a grandparent and a legislator, it is my responsibility to do what I can to help ensure the safety and well-being of the children of New Jersey,” said Senator Beach, D-Camden. “These measures are designed to send a clear message that anyone who intends to harm our youth will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We must protect the children of our State.”

21 May: Beach/Van Drew Bill To Appropriate Funds For Farmland Preservation Clears Senate

TRENTON – A measure sponsored by Senators Jim Beach and Jeff Van Drew which would appropriate funds for farmland preservation projects around the State was unanimously approved today by the full Senate.

“Farmland preservation grants help local farmers to cultivate and acquire land, at no additional cost to taxpayers” said Senator Beach, D-Camden. “As local populations increase, so will the amount of space needed for open space, crops and farmland preservation. These grants will enable New Jersey’s farmers to use existing funds to continue growing the high quality produce for which our state is known.”

14 May: Beach Resolution Recognizing ‘Tinnitus Awareness Week’ Introduced In Senate

TRENTON – Senator Jim Beach today introduced a resolution in the State Senate to recognize the week of May 10 – May 16 as “Tinnitus Awareness Week,” in order to advance public awareness about the hearing disorder and encourage both public and private health organizations to continue to fund research into treatments designed to alleviate the symptoms and to find a cure for this incapacitating condition.

“When we talk about advocating on behalf of a population, we often speak in terms of being a voice for those who can’t speak for themselves,” said Senator Beach, D-Camden. “In this case, New Jersey must be a voice for those who can’t hear the debate. This resolution would help create enhanced public awareness about a debilitating hearing condition known as tinnitus, and would hopefully spur public and private investment into treating and someday curing this disorder.”

14 May: Beach Bills To Appropriate Funds For Clean Water And Farmland Preservation Projects Clear Senate Committees

TRENTON – Two measures sponsored by Senator Jim Beach which would appropriate funds for clean water and farmland preservation projects around the State were approved today by Senate Committees.

One measure, S-2797, would establish a “Clean Water State Revolving Fund” within the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to determine how to best utilize the federal stimulus funds authorized and appropriated through the “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.”

“These funds would help to cover the cost of clean water projects throughout the State of New Jersey,” said Senator Beach, D-Camden. “The federal stimulus dollars have already been appropriated so there will be no additional cost to taxpayers. It is our responsibility to ensure that we use the funds where they are most needed.”

06 May: Beach Bill Would Make Inmates Pay Cost Of Their Incarceration

TRENTON � Sen. James Beach has introduced a bill that would require inmates with financial means to pay the state for the cost of their incarceration

The bill (S-2809) would require the state Department of Corrections to establish and collect an annual fee from inmates in state correctional facilities. The money would be used to offset the cost of their imprisonment. The fee established by the bill would be equivalent to the average cost to the department of incarcerating an inmate for one year.

04 May: Beach Measure To Give County Sheriffs Administrative Flexibility Advances In Committee

TRENTON – A bill sponsored by Senator Jim Beach designed to give county sheriffs a measure of administrative flexibility and ensure essential functions can continue in the sheriff’s absence was unanimously approved by the Senate Law, Public Safety and Veterans’ Affairs Committee today.

“Our State’s county sheriffs perform essential law-enforcement duties for our communities, particularly in the more rural and suburban regions of New Jersey,” said Senator Beach, D-Camden. “Rather than saddle these law enforcement professionals with mountains of paperwork, we should give them the option to share the burden with a duly-authorized undersheriff. And in the event that a sheriff is absent, the administrative functions of the office should be carried on by a qualified undersheriff.”

18 Mar: Codey Announces New Appointments To Senate Judiciary & Labor Committees

TRENTON – Senate President Richard J. Codey (D-Essex) announced today that he has expanded the membership on both the Senate Judiciary and Labor committees and appointed Senator Brian P. Stack and Senator James Beach, respectively, to fill the new posts.

The membership on each committee will be expanded by two, with one new Democrat and one new Republican appointed for each committee.
