Codey Appoints Weinberg To Chair Senate Legislative Oversight Committee

TRENTON – Senate President Richard J. Codey (D-Essex) today announced the appointment of Senator Loretta Weinberg (D-Bergen) as the new chair of the Senate Legislative Oversight Committee. The primary function of the committee is to review administrative regulations to ensure that they are consistent with legislative intent, as well as to consider general oversight matters relative to other branches of government, bi-state authorities and independent authorities.

“Senator Weinberg is the perfect fit to chair this committee,” said Sen. Codey. “She has the utmost respect for the integrity of the legislative process. I know she will ensure that the hard work and planning that go into crafting legislative policies are carried out appropriately on the administrative end.”

“I’d like to thank Senator Codey for this opportunity,” said Sen. Weinberg. “As we forge ahead, I hope to use this interesting committee assignment to examine our regulatory policies to ensure that they are consistent with the goals of the legislature and in the overall best interests of the state.”

Senator Weinberg will replace Senator Paul A. Sarlo (D-Bergen, Essex, Passaic) who was recently appointed to chair the Senate Judiciary Committee. Sen. Sarlo will remain on the Legislative Oversight Committee as a general member. The appointment will take effect after the June 4th hearing of the committee, which has been scheduled by Sen. Sarlo to address the implementation of Water Quality Management Planning rules.
