Senator Sarlo Statement On State Of The State Address

TRENTON – Senator Paul A. Sarlo, D-Bergen, Essex and Passaic, and Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement today regarding Governor Corzine’s State of the State Address:

“Governor Corzine, in his State of the State Address today, gave due recognition to the ongoing economic crisis which is raging across America. However, he noted that New Jersey continues to head in a positive direction, the result of a targeted economic recovery plan implemented late last year.

“While we face many challenges in New Jersey, particularly in mitigating the effects of the national recession on our State residents, I think our State is much better off than others, thanks to the responsible fiscal leadership of the Governor and the Legislature during tough economic times.

“Due in part to the Governor’s leadership, New Jersey is at the forefront of tackling the economic crisis headlong. We’re maintaining a jobless rate below the national average, and the steps we’ve taken in the Garden State will position us well once the recession ends. We must continue this forward momentum in the months ahead, to shield New Jerseyans from the worst of the storm and prepare the State for prosperity once the national economy gets back on track.”
