Trenton – Senate President Steve Sweeney attended The ARC’s annual holiday bowling party in Hamilton today. The event raises awareness for those with disabilities as well as the work of ARC in New Jersey.
“The ARC gives joy and fulfillment to each individual they work with and it was a delight to join them for their annual party,” said Senator Sweeney (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland). “It is essential for our communities to have places like The ARC, so our loved ones with special needs have a place to work and learn in an environment suited to their needs. I am incredibly grateful for everything they do in our community, and it was a joy to see everyone enjoying the holiday spirit.”
The ARC is the largest national community-based organization advocating for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and serving them and their families. Their goal is for every individual and family member living with I/DD in the United States to have access to the information, advocacy, and skills they need to support their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.
“Senator Sweeney is a well-known advocate for what we do here at The ARC and it meant so much to everyone involved with our organization to have him here today,” said Steve Cook, Executive Director of ARC Mercer. “We are immensely appreciative of everything he does with our organization and even more grateful for all the ways he supports the special needs community.”
The ARC was founded in 1950 and their core values are people first, equity, community, self-determination and diversity.
