20 Apr: Greenstein, Deangelo And Benson’s Road Rage Legislation Becomes Law

TRENTON – A bill sponsored by the 14th District Legislative team of Senator Linda R. Greenstein, Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo and Assemblyman Dan Benson that increases penalties for those who exhibit road rage and cause serious harm to others was signed into law today by Governor Chris Christie.

“Since New Jersey motorists drive on the nation’s most congested roads, it is of the utmost importance that they act in a rational and safe manner while behind the wheel,” said Senator Greenstein (D-Plainsboro). “When someone drives aggressively and in a rage-filled way, they can cause severe harm to their passengers or people in other cars. When something like this does occur, it is imperative that drivers are held accountable. Now with the enactment of ‘Jessica Rogers’ Law’ we can ensure justice for these victims.”

TRENTON – A bill sponsored by Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee Chairwoman Loretta Weinberg which would require privately-owned hospitals to report more financial information to the public was approved by the Senate yesterday by a vote of 23-15.

“Even privately-funded hospitals may receive a substantial amount of taxpayer funds in the form of Medicaid reimbursements or charity care aid,” said Senator Weinberg, D-Bergen. “In those cases, the taxpayers of New Jersey should have greater transparency to see how their funds are being spent. This bill is about allowing the public to scrutinize State health care spending, whether at publicly-funded hospitals or privately-funded hospitals which may be the recipient of State aid.”

20 Jul: Weinberg-Cunningham Bill To Increase Public Reporting For For-Profit Hospitals Approved In Committee

TRENTON – A bill sponsored by Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee Chairwoman Loretta Weinberg and Senator Sandra Bolden Cunningham which would require privately-owned hospitals to report more financial information to the public was approved by the health committee yesterday by a vote of 7-0, with one abstention.

“Even though a hospital is privately-owned, it may still derive a large part of its funding from the taxpayers,” said Senator Weinberg. “If these facilities are the recipient of taxpayer funds in the form of charity care reimbursement or Medicaid funding, the taxpayers have a right to know about their finances. This bill would create more public scrutiny of for-profit health care facilities in order to make sure that these hospitals are still living up to their responsibility to the patients they serve.”
