09 Apr: Madden/Buono Bill To Make 1St Monday In November ‘Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Day’ Signed Into Law Today

TRENTON – A measure sponsored by Senators Fred H. Madden and Barbara Buono, D-Middlesex, which would permanently designate the first Monday in November as “Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Day” was signed into law today by Governor Corzine.

“This legislation is about increasing awareness of Alzheimer’s disease, and the impact it has on patients and their families,” said Senator Madden, D-Camden and Gloucester. “Scientists say that there are more than 5 million people in the United States who are living with Alzheimer’s. As our ‘baby-boomer’ generation continues to age, the cases of Alzheimer’s and other age-related diseases will only increase, and it is important that we are aware of the warning signs so that the disease can be caught early and so that patients can receive the best possible medical treatment.”

01 Jul: Kenny: Inspector General Is A Needed Voice Of Independence

TRENTON – Senate Majority Leader Bernard F. Kenny Jr. issued the following comments this evening after the Senate gave final approval to his bill, S-2195, to create the Office of the Inspector General. The vote was 37-0 and the bill now goes to tthe Governor.

“The Inspector General (created by this bill) will coordinate probes of public contracts, compel testimony with subpoena power and ensure a fair-dollar return for taxpayers.

SENATE APPROVES KENNY’S BIPARTISAN INSPECTOR GENERAL BILL

TRENTON – The Senate today approved a bipartisan bill sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Bernard F. Kenny Jr. to create a permanent Office of Inspector General.

“The Inspector General will be the point person to root out profligate spending and mismanagement at all levels of government in New Jersey,” said Senator Kenny, D-Hudson.

04 Mar: Preview-Senate To Consider Good Government Reforms On Monday

TRENTON – On Monday, Senate committees will consider a number of good government reform initiatives to cut down on waste, give voice to the voiceless, and address the issue of vacancy in the Governor’s Office.

The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee will vote on two bills designed to increase oversight of State government. The first bill, S-541, sponsored by Senator Joseph F. Vitale, would reestablish the Office of the Public Advocate to ensure that government works on behalf of the people of the State.

TRENTON – The Senate State Government Committee today approved a bipartisan bill sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Bernard F. Kenny Jr. to create a permanent Office of Inspector General to root out mismanagement and wasteful spending at every level of government in New Jersey.

“New Jersey’s Inspector General will fight to ensure that all government spending is backed by integrity, accountability and fiscal prudence,” said Senator Kenny, D-Hudson. “We cannot ask the people of New Jersey to trust our guardianship of $28 billion in annual State spending unless we take forceful action to eliminate all wasteful expenditures.”
