SENATOR GILL STATEMENT ON CHRISTIE ADMIN DROPPING LEGAL CHALLENGE TO MARRIAGE EQUALITY

Senator Nia Gill (D-Essex/Passaic) speaking at a press conference supporting marriage equality.

TRENTON – Senator Nia H. Gill (D-Essex/Passaic) issued the following statement on the Christie Administration’s decision to withdraw its appeal to the marriage equality case, Garden State Equality vs. Dow, that was before the New Jersey Supreme Court:

“The Supreme Court ruling last week made it clear that same-sex marriage was here to stay and that continuing with an appeal would only delay the inevitable.

“Same-sex couples will now be afforded all of the benefits they are entitled to under the law. This is a new day for New Jersey and for all of us who vowed to continue the fight to ensure that separate and unequal marital laws would not stand. Like all of the civil rights victories that came before it, this day will forever be etched in history.”
